🥋 Life Skills Week 1: Integrity in Action
Doing What’s Right, Even When Nobody Is Watching
This week at Inspiration ATA Martial Arts, we’re beginning our new eight-week Life Skills cycle: INTEGRITY!
Integrity means doing what’s right, even when it’s hard or nobody is watching.
We all want our children to make good choices. But one of the biggest goals of character education is helping children make those choices because they understand why they’re right—not simply because an adult is watching or they want a reward.
Integrity is about developing an inner compass that helps guide our decisions.
🌟 What We’re Teaching This Week
SEE: I understand that my choices show my character, even when nobody is watching.
SAY: “I do what’s right, even when it’s hard.”
DO: I stop, think about my choices, and choose what is right.
🥋 What We’re Practicing in Class
During class, students will complete martial arts drills while keeping track of their own repetitions.
What happens if an instructor asks for ten kicks but a student only completes eight? Could they say they finished all ten?
Perhaps nobody else would notice—but the student would know.
This gives us an opportunity to discuss an important question:
Do we do what’s right because someone is checking, or because it’s the right thing to do?
We’ll also remind students that integrity doesn’t mean being perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is recognizing them, taking responsibility, and choosing how to move forward.
❤️ Why This Matters Beyond Martial Arts
As children grow, parents and teachers won’t always be there to guide every decision.
They’ll face choices about friendships, schoolwork, responsibilities, and how they treat others.
We want children who can think for themselves, recognize right from wrong, and make responsible decisions even when no one is supervising them.
That’s what integrity helps develop.
⭐ STAR CHALLENGE: DO WHAT’S RIGHT
This week, encourage your child to make a good choice when nobody is watching or when doing the wrong thing would be easier.
Some examples:
- Following a rule without being reminded.
- Returning something that doesn’t belong to them.
- Being kind when nobody is watching.
- Admitting a mistake.
- Completing a responsibility independently.
- Choosing not to cheat during a game.
Conversation starters for families:
- What choice did you make?
- What made the right choice difficult?
- How did you feel afterward?
Celebrate the decision, not just the outcome!
💭 Remember
Integrity isn’t about being perfect. It’s about choosing to do what’s right, even when it’s hard.
🥋 This week’s phrase: “I do what’s right, even when it’s hard.”
At Inspiration ATA, we’re developing more than martial artists. We’re helping children build the character to make good choices wherever life takes them.
