WEEK 8 — FORGIVENESS
“I Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Proud of Who I Am”
It’s almost belt testing week and the final week of our Self-Esteem cycle!
Our last pillar is forgiveness.
Everyone makes mistakes—children, parents, instructors, friends, and yes, students during belt testing. The original lesson emphasizes that a mistake doesn’t define who a student is.
This week we’re learning:
“I don’t have to be perfect to be proud of who I am.”
❤️ Forgiving Yourself
Forgiving ourselves doesn’t mean ignoring mistakes.
We still take responsibility.
We still make things right.
We still learn.
But after we’ve learned what we need to learn, we don’t have to keep punishing ourselves for the mistake.
Practice:
MISTAKE → LEARN → LET GO → MOVE FORWARD
Instead of:
“I’m terrible at this.”
Try:
“I made a mistake. What can I learn?”
🥋 Belt Testing Connection
Students might forget part of a form.
They might miss a technique.
They might get nervous.
They might make a mistake they’ve never made before.
One mistake does not erase everything they’ve learned.
Practice:
BREATHE → RESET → CONTINUE
Belt testing isn’t about demonstrating perfection. It’s an opportunity to demonstrate growth, effort, focus, skill, and perseverance.
❤️ Forgiving Others Doesn’t Remove Boundaries
Forgiveness also doesn’t mean pretending someone didn’t hurt us or allowing them to continue doing it.
We can forgive someone and still have a boundary.
That connects Week 8 all the way back to the self-awareness and boundaries students practiced in Week 3.
⭐ FINAL STAR CHALLENGE
Think about a mistake you’ve made.
Ask:
What happened?
What did I learn?
What will I do differently next time?
Can I forgive myself and move forward?
“I don’t have to be perfect to be proud of who I am.”
🥋 Self-Esteem is the JOY of Being Myself.
