WEEK 1 — CONFIDENCE
How to Help Your Child Build Confidence Through Practice
Confidence is one of the most important building blocks of healthy self-esteem.
At Inspiration ATA Martial Arts, we teach:
Self-Esteem is the JOY of Being Myself.
Our first pillar is confidence, and this week students are learning:
“I can do hard things until they are no longer hard.”
💪 Confidence Doesn’t Mean Everything Is Easy
Confidence doesn’t mean knowing you’ll succeed on your first attempt.
It means seeing yourself as someone who is capable of learning and improving.
Think about something your child can do now that was once difficult—reading, tying their shoes, riding a bike, performing a martial arts technique, or solving a math problem.
How did it become easier?
Practice.
Confidence grows through:
CHALLENGE → PRACTICE → ADJUST → IMPROVE
When children experience themselves getting better at something, they gain evidence that says:
“I can learn hard things.”
🥋 What We’re Practicing in Class
This week, we’re intentionally giving students challenging skills and letting them practice repeatedly.
We’ll ask:
“Was that easier than your first attempt?”
“What did you change?”
“What helped you improve?”
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s helping students recognize their own progress.
🏠 Try This at Home
When your child struggles, resist immediately doing the task for them.
Instead, try:
“Give it a try. I’m here if you need help.”
Praise what they did:
- “I noticed you kept practicing.”
- “You changed what you were doing and tried again.”
- “That was hard, and you kept working.”
⭐ THIS WEEK’S STAR CHALLENGE
Choose ONE hard thing and practice it 3 times this week.
Afterward, ask:
Did it get easier? What did you learn?
Confidence doesn’t mean everything is easy.
Confidence means believing: “I can do hard things until they are no longer hard.”
🥋 Self-Esteem is the JOY of Being Myself.
